The magnetic compass has been in use for 2,200 years. With the more recent introduction and integration of electronic navigation, many mariners have neglected the fundamental understanding and operation of the magnetic compass. In this program, we will take a look at the compass from its origin to its place in in modern day operations of marine vessels.
Seamus Duffy is a son of sailor and the son of a compass adjustor. He has over 30 years as a sailor, and 20+years of compass adjusting experience, a skill he learned from his father. Through the years he has gained special insight into the use, performance, and practical problems and solutions of the magnetic compass. Mr. Duffy's company, Annapolis Compass, has offered professional compass adjusting services in the Eastern-Atlantic for recreational, commercial, and military vessels; adjusting every type of vessel imaginable from top-secret military ships to trailer-able boats.
